Taking part in a clinical trial

Before a new medication can be approved for public use, researchers must learn more about it through clinical research studies, also referred to as clinical trials. Clinical trials gather valuable information that could lead to better treatments and, with the right breakthrough, better outcomes.

  • The goal of this process is to learn whether the study drug works and is safe for people
  • Clinical research studies, often called clinical trials, are important to the future of medicine

Informed consent

Informed consent is a process in which the study team gives you information about a clinical trial so you can decide whether you want to participate in it.

  • You will be asked to review an informed consent form, which describes the study in detail and its possible benefits and risks
  • If you decide that you are interested in joining the study after reviewing this information, the study team will ask you to sign the informed consent form
  • You can decide to stop participating in the study at any time, for any reason

If you are interested in participating, you will receive more information to help you determine if you would like to enroll in the study.

Your answers will be recorded, but your information will be used only for the purposes of the study and will not be shared without your permission, unless required by law.

Are you between the ages of 50 and 90 years?

Are you experiencing memory loss?

Do you have a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease? (A current diagnosis is not required for study participation.)

Do you have a study partner, such as a spouse, family member, or friend, who can attend some of the study visits?
